What the allowance actually buys
One allowance here buys 183,570 EXP, which places it 4th of the 6 Lv 58 Carpenter tradecraft leves that record EXP. The best of them, Anatomy of a Drill Bit, returns 484,390 EXP for the same allowance, 164% more.
Across that rung the return runs from 70,237 EXP to 484,390 EXP per allowance — 6 distinct figures spanning 590%, so the wrong pick leaves 414,153 EXP of the allowance unspent.
On whether to wait: the best Lv 60 Carpenter tradecraft leve returns 812,920 EXP per allowance, 68% more than the best on this rung, while the Lv 56 rung behind tops out at 656,800 EXP.
At Lv 58 this data holds 54 leves paying EXP across 2 categories: the 48 Tradecraft ones average 327,945 EXP per allowance, the 6 Fieldcraft ones 716,251 EXP, which puts this leve 44% below its own category's average.
Gil ranks it differently: 1,123 gil per allowance is 2nd of 6 on the same rung against 4th on EXP, with the best there paying 1,186 gil.
Birch Lumber ×1 is a Lv 58 Carpenter recipe, a single step, costing 5 units of raw material and 5 crystals.
Handing that in returns 36,714 EXP and 225 gil for every unit of raw material the order swallows.
